TSN Ducks Hire Quenneville Head Coach May 8, 2025!

Anaheim Ducks Set to Hire Joel Quenneville as Head Coach After NHL Reinstatement!

The Anaheim Ducks are expected to name Joel Quenneville as their new head coach, according to TSN insiders Pierre LeBrun and Darren Dreger. The official announcement is expected Thursday morning.

Quenneville, 66, last coached in the NHL with the Florida Panthers but resigned in 2021 after details emerged about how the Chicago Blackhawks handled sexual assault allegations during the team’s 2010 Stanley Cup run. At the time, Quenneville was the Blackhawks’ head coach.

The Ducks reportedly conducted an in-depth background review specific to the Kyle Beach case before moving forward with the hire. Quenneville, along with former Blackhawks executives Stan Bowman and Al MacIsaac, required NHL permission to return to the league—approval that was granted in July 2024.

The NHL noted that while their previous responses were inadequate, all three individuals have since shown remorse and committed to understanding the responsibilities that come with leadership in the league.

Quenneville becomes the second from that group to return to the NHL, following Bowman’s hiring by the Edmonton Oilers last year.

He will take over from Greg Cronin, after the Ducks finished sixth in the Pacific Division and missed the playoffs for the seventh consecutive season. Quenneville brings a legendary track record: he’s the second-winningest coach in NHL history, with 969 career wins and three Stanley Cups with Chicago (2010, 2013, 2015).
